   Never having owned an electronically controlled diesel, I guess I don't think
in those terms. And I'll bet that a big share of the big trucks on the road
aren't. But, if they are, then what are those rad covers for? Just to keep slush
and road crap out of the rad? Or to help keep the filters warm as I said
before? But probably in newer trucks those are all heated anyway.
   But you're right about the "thermostat should hold a temperature where the
engine runs well." So if you'v got the right therm in there, there would never
be a reason to cover the rad, because no coolant would be leaving the engine
until it was hot enough, and rad covered or uncovered would make zero
difference.
