"And my advice for diesels is to not fall for the add nonsense about

Oh, so now I guess you're an oil expert too? Is there anything that you
don't think you know? LOL Instead of going on opinion and emotion, how
about doing a little research on synthetic oils. Here's a great place to
start:

Blotter test? LOL Diesel oil turns black within 5 miles of driving. It's
because of all the soot the oil is suspending. If your oil is black, it's
doing it's job.
There is no "nonsense" about synthetic oils. Synthetic oils protect better
and offer extended drain intervals vs dino oils. Extended drain intervals
allow you to spend LESS money per year on oil changes, allows the US to use
LESS oil per year (American and foreign), and puts LESS waste oil into the
enviornment to be recycled.
For example, there's a fellow on another diesel list that only uses dino oil
in his TDI. He changes his oil every 5000 miles at a cost of $16US. I
change my synthetic oil every 10k miles at a cost of $26US. If we both
drive 20k miles per year, he's spending $64US per year on oil changes
whereas I'm only spending $52US a year. And my synthetic oil itself is
$10US MORE per gallon than his dino oil. Plus he's dumping TWICE as much
oil into the enviornment to be recycled than I am, and he's ADDING to
America's need for foreign oil by using more oil per year than he has to.
Radial tires cost more than bias-ply tires, but radials are better. In
fact, can you even buy bias-ply tires anymore? Probably not. Synthetic
oils cost more than dino oils, but synthetic oils are better. One day, you
won't be able to buy dino oils either.
Wake up Hagar. It's the 21st century. Dino is out and Synth is in.

Loren so you are not at Pacific great. And Mark Shepherd it would be
fairer to compare say ESSO AD-100 and Veggie oil in injection pump. Some gear
systems use Veggie oils now --- to protect waterways. (Biodegradable fast
and not toxic to life).
70 + years of oil-changes gave me a lot of time to compare. And my advice
for diesels is to not fall for the add nonsense about synthetics. The lube is
fine but very expensive and a bad choice for us not so well heeled.Reasoning
is this : normal oil does not wear out or deteriorate if you stay with short
regular changing.I do filter and oil every 100hours on hourmeter machines
and the rabbits by blotter test (there is Marks LOO paper again)and
mileage. Change to get rid of crud. If oils is "BLACK as TOBYS ass" on
blotter test I change no matter the miles. Another very important reason for
changing often , is the fact that some older Rabbits wind up with a lot of
diesel in the oil-sump.Rid by draining. Also on this reasoning drain
antifreeze every year to rid of crud.Older Rabbits are prone to exhaust gas
seeping in to cooling system. Have fun --I sure have with those little
bunny's. Hagar.
