"To complicate matters , some car oils are advertised as synth in big print
, but are not true 100% synthetic."
You are correct. Most "synthetic" oils on the market today are Group 3
oils. Group 3 oils are made with dino oil base stocks. Group 4 oils are
made with synthetic base stocks. The only Group 4 oils are the market that
I know of are Mobil 1, Mobil Delvac-1, Amsoil, Redline, and Royal Purple.

I use a lot of 100% synthetic oil and grease . But have no experience with
amsoil. And never commented on it, my comments were about the absurd
advertising claims. If I had money to burn I would use synthetic lube oil in
the diesels around here. But the rabbits would stay on blotter and short
interval. As to the time-clock question ??? you bet your sweet bunny.
Many oils decanter sitting , my experience is mostly with aircraft oils and
gearoils. The av oil has (had) a specific storage life, thats why I am
burning the old oil from 1970 in 2003.Got tired of moving it around in the
storage area.Rabbits absolutely loves the stuff. Dieselfuel decanter on
top of deteriorating otherwise. This is Refinery information not my
guesses and emotions ,storage 6 month max. Some synthetics have an unknown
life (must be hundreds of years) such as silicon oils and greases. To
complicate matters , some car oils are advertised as synth in big print ,
but are not true 100% synthetic.---Esso here sells a fully synthetic oil for
cars and light trucks. "Superflo" synthetic ---- for gasoline engines. My
info say that Dino oil does not wear out mechanically ---but additives
deplete ( leaving acids and what have you to do their worst ). nuff for
this time. Next time I shall mention interval of changing.(my experience)
Hagar.
