[Vwdiesel] Forget these Rabbits/Jettas 'Ow about the Quantums (Quantae?)

Looking at my manual for the Quantum and then at my diesel Rabbit book; I've
for the first time noticed the large difference in weights
Quantum 1520Kg....puny Rabbit 830kg! I knew it was heavier but I didnt
realise it was nearly twice the weight. No wonder I struggle to get better
than 9 to 11 miles per litre town/run. Can we have some postings for these
vehicles on comparative fuel economies...
Are these form of diesels rarer??

On a related subject... I find my 1.6TD 'Q' quite fast..I've hit 90mph no
trouble with more in reserve...[except we've had a recent obsession with
speed cameras in fixed locations ...and now this year mobile ones :-( ]
But this last month I noticed my turbo was spooling up almost immediately
and whistling louder than usual...I found the cause a hole in the downpipe
just beyond the turbo. The engine seemed to 'coincidentally'? pull better
than before and there didnt seem to be the same blowing exhaust sound that
my gassers would have produced with the same hole...which has now grown to a
transverse split half way across the pipe but still not the noise! Strange!
Is it because the turbo fins even out the exhaust pulses?

Finally ...I might just buy a Rabbit 'softtop' shell and stick my spare TD
engine in. I wonder what kind of acceleration I'd get ;-p
