[Vwdiesel] A/C compressor Clutch removal

'85 Jetta TD #2 I bought this winter also has the
wiring to its A/C compressor clutch rubbed through
completely where the wires come out of the clutch
(ouch!). But I have a spare identical compressor.
Question: How is the A/C clutch replaced? I plan to
use the compressor that's on the Jetta to avoid
removing the R-12, but I'm under the impression a
special wrench, or spanner, is needed to hold the
pulley while the nut is loosened. Anyone ever done
this before?  Thanks,
