I forgot to speak to injectors in the last email.

The difference in the turbo injectors is that they have a higher breaking
pressure. I don't remember off the top of my head, but it's like 1850 PSI
instead of 1700 PSI - or something like that. I'm guessing at the numbers
but the difference is about right.

If you have an injector tester, it's easy to take the injectors apart
and adjust the breaking pressure. I wouldn't worry about it right
at the beginning.

The cam in the pump will make no difference, what counts is how much fuel
gets injected per firing stroke. Once it starts at the timing point, it's
the pressure plunger putting in a fixed amount of fuel per degree of pump
rotation.

All the other stuff such as the advance mechanism will only adjust when
the injection starts. The pump advance is adjustable, but I couldn't
see much (if any) benefit playing with it, and it was very easy to knock
the fuel mileage down when it was off target. Besides, above some RPM
point the advance is cranked on as much as it is going to change. It's
mostly there to help cold starting and to reduce knocking at low speeds
and light throttle.

Now - clearance with the inside of the Vanagon engine compartment is nothing
I can speak to. I could tell you about putting a Porsche 2.4L 911 engine in,
but that's probably off target for this list :-)
