[Vwdiesel] Now that I'm on the subject of cotton...

A thought just occurred to me... I no longer use expensive paper air
filters...I just stretch a piece of old cotton shirt over the filter holder
and clamp the cover down! Totally effective...after 3 months remove and
inspect 'white shirt is grey on the outside and still white on the inside
..conclusion? No ascertainable dirt through to turbine.

Exactly how much dirt is entering the intake any way? 1cc/yr? no for me I
suspect a lot less...What kind of damage can 1cc (1/16") of dust do anyway?
...In; burnt; and out as particulates!...My whole Td only cost $160 in the 1st
place! So any expenditure on consumables look relatively expensive...

My earlier reference to cotton was to use it as a kind of combustible cable
tie on each ring...incase there was confusion!
