(First part of the story: the shop putting my 1.9NA into a 1983 vanagon
have no experience. And, that's being nice)
So, they finally figured out why the oil pressure was not up: The bypass
valva was stuck. Thanks to folks on this list for giving me the scoop on
that (and I passed on to them). Engine is running, and all is fine.
The point of this email is they want to charge me $2200 to put in an
engine (I bought the engine), with the following new parts: Muffler,
injectors, motor mounts, misc. seals, oil pump, electric fuel pump (which
they thought I needed for some reason), clutch, flywheel surfaced,
timing belt cover fabricated, belts, water pump, and misc. parts. Does
this sound reasonable (I certainly do not think so)? They originally
quoted me $1200.00.
They wanted to replace the starter and the clutch relay cylinder for
$600.00. I told them to go to hell.
Comments on the $2200 dollar bill? (Plus the $1800 I spent to buy the
1.9NA).
