Do you have a written estimate for the work? In NH a repair shop is only
allowed to go over by 10% on a written estimate without customer
authorization. If you didn't authorize the work, the shop eats it. Not sure
if this law is in effect in the state that the work was done, but it's
something to check.
If all else fails, there's small claims court and the BBB. Of course, the
shop may put a mechanic's lien on the van until all is settled, but it
sounds as though this may get nasty anyway.
