Yeah, like an idiot I trusted the shop..it was a verbal quote. I should
known better than that. (ok, I am a Mason, and a Mason friend referred the
shop to me, so it's the fraternity kind of thing, so I went there.)
The shop owner knows that I have a snowball's chance in h*ll of small
claims, etc, and I know that as well. So, negotiation is probably the
only way to handle this. And, I know better then spreading the name of
the shop on the web, with my bad experience as well. Funny thing is that
he knows I am well connected locally...and still is trying to gamble.
But, I can pass on a good shop in the mid-willamette valley: Go to Bug
Werks in Corvallis, OR...they have diesel guy(s) that knows lots and lots
about VW diesels, and they do good work (not personal experience, since I made
the mistake of not going there, but my biodeisel/veggie buddies have had
great service). They even have done some 1.9 transplants....wish I would
have known.
But at least, the SlugBus is back on the road (see Homepower magazine a
couple of years ago for a feature on the SB)
