I have a 1984 Westfalia that has just had a 1.9TD installed. The
engine has a gear reduction starter so does not spin the engine over as
fast as the diesel starter. The engine starts immediately when the
glow plugs are used, or when the engine is being restarted after a few
minutes of being shut off. If it sits for an hour it takes quite a bit
of cranking (5 seconds or so) to start. In these situations, the
engine is warm enough for the glow plugs not to come on.
Someone suggested removing the wire from the sensor that reads the
engine temperature, so the glow plugs come on everytime.
What are your thoughts and where is this sensor located?
