what can be done about this?
not sure what exactly is leaking
but if it's not a hose, how do you fix a leaking pump?
can a pump be rebuilt by a regular guy with some garden-variety tools?
or do I have to cough up 600. bucks for a new pump?
(leak pretty much stops after 5 min or so, after engine warms up)
thx

Rolf and all : My handle is Hagar the Horrible. and I am a member of "The pump gang"
we are a growing bunch who had it with the VW stealerships and the rip-offs.

So we decided it was time to DIY ---- and the movement is gathering strength.

Here is what kick-started me : 1982 1.6L NA Rabbit -------the pump started
to leak --a little at first , but totally out of control by ( VW diesel Rabbit Bosh pumps. H .Hagar )Starting: Sun Dec 1 09:52:18 EST 2002
Ending: Tue Dec 31 22:57:15 EST 2002

Cold start stub shaft seal leaking. what to do ? called Capilano Volkswagen
and was quoted 5000 dollars Canadian for a pump. Looks like we have
to pay for his Christmas. ----- Lucky for me this forum had already been
dealing with pumps for years. How did I find this place exactly the right minute ?
(did I pray? bet your ass). This forum solved my problem in no time flat
at NO cost -not one penny ----find the story in archives. Gary Bangs in Florida
sent me a PM and all was well.

>From Dec 2002 till now Friday 13 August 2004 ---I had more fun with these pumps
than I could have imagined when I started out.

Is there magic and touch and feel and art involved ? --- YES YES as you get
good at it you can feel the belt you can feel the slop in mainshaft you can
smell the leaks -----not to forget sounds. It is a curious mix of high tech
and Hillbilly know-how that gets us going. AND keeps us going.

VERY IMPORTANT : Grab any freebee pumps you come across.

Hagar.

PS: have fun.
