The simplest of all tests ? ---at idle pull the cold start ----if you get a big difference
in sound and or smoke ? your pump is worn.
Notice the word BIG.
And the cold start must be adjusted according to Bentley. For this test to be
accurate.
Absolutely no difference in sound or RPM or smoke -- your pump is most likely like
mine on Bunny Bondo ---A -OK.
If your cutie is not timed and what not according to Bentley --then the test may detect
other more complicated conditions as you can see from Lorens thread.
The problem with the worn pumps is similar to Alternator brushes it is very
gradual ---- there is no immediately loss of lots of power. In the beginning you
may only loose a couple of degrees advance----- That can be tested with the
oil fuel mixture.
A likely loss is about 10 degrees crank angle. Under load she will smoke then.
And be lethargic.
If fuel is added with no corresponding advance ---she will not do her thing.
Hagar.
