Along with the timer idea,

With timer usage, calculate the electrical cost involved and simply
offer to pay for the power. Can't be more than a few dollars a month.

Then there can be no whining about special treatment.

Being the revengeful person that I am, a syringe of water in their door
locks would bring a smile to my face. Oops! Am I thinking out loud
again?
