[Vwdiesel] Tranny woes.

Any help here would be appreciated. I lost my tranny fluid yesterday (5 speed 
maual) on a long trip. Did not know it until it popped out of 5th at 70 MPH. 
Babied it about 2 miles to a rest area and now have it home. In general should 
I expect this on to be done or fill it up try a local drive and keep it 
topped off for a week or two until we defrost here in N.Y.. Also I have a spare 
from a previous jetta that I had replaced the flange seals on and first test 
drive made a nasty clicking noise removed it and used a different tranny in it.

Anyone with any guidance on what I could have done wrong when I replaced the 
seals? The tranny was fine until I replaced them in the car drove it a mile or 
so and swapped it out in a panic. I would like to use it in case my existing 
one is done.
