[Vwdiesel] TDI head question

Well, the mechanic is still trying to help me out regardless whatever 
the shop owner thinks and is still doing the work trying to get my TDI 
to where I can re-assemble it.  One question I do have regards the 
head.  The lifter that got destroyed had quite a time on its way out and 
gouged up the bore in the actual head casting pretty good.  The mechanic 
extracted all the broken bits and honed the bore back round.  A 
replacement lifter fits in nicely with no play and moves very well, but 
there's still some pretty glaring damage in the bore.  How precise is 
that sort of thing?  Something in my gut tells me that that should be 
sleeved or something.  (I don't know what all a head shop can do.)

Mechanic is very confident on this repair, but despite his honest 
efforts to help me out, I'm still a little concerned about the 
destination of the road paved with those good intentions.
