So sorry Bart, for I have no particular experience with this type of thing,
(thanks for the vote of confidence, Hagar) although I would hope it's a
peripheral type problem,(such as tuning, injection pump or injectors etc). I've
never had a hydraulic motor so I'm not sure how that might be affecting it. It
sounds like too much smoke to be attributing to valve seals but ??????. Black
smoke of course is injection related. Even blue smoke can be injection related
if I'm not mistaken, but I could be severely chastised and corrected on that
point. Anyway, I am chiming in here somewhat late. I have been spending most
of my spare time flying my ultralight trike (kind of a tricycle with a
motor/prop and a souped up hang glider wing) I recently puchased and soloed. I am
enjoying the process more than you can imagine, honing my skillset to handle
various atmospheric anomalies mother nature deals out. Which by the way has at
times also dealt out considerable pucker facter, but all part of the
challenge. Sure as hell beats chasing after a *&^^%#!@$*(* 1.6 TURBO BLOCK!!!!!!!
Any how, If you can verify that you have good compression, it might be helpful
to see if you can try a known good set of injectors and pump, properly timed,
and see how she does. Easier said than done, I know. Maybe your pump did
something wierd. I can remember one 1.5 engine that would (mostly when at a
cold idle) pump out the whitish/blue smoke like crazy when you didn't have the
cold start lever pulled out, but as soon as you pulled out the lever, the smoke
would immediately cease. I concluded (perhaps erroneously) that injection
timing can have an effect on blue smoke. Anyway, gotta go dinner's ready, Doug
Ferguson
