It all depends on the way the bearing is designed and the loads on it. The transmission has bearings that run at relatively high speed and lower loads than do the CVs (speeds lower by the final drive ratio and loads higher again by the same final drive
ratio). The oil mixing with the grease lowers its viscosity so its easier to be forced out of the bearing race.
In my case, the main problem was due to the oil thinning out the grease then causing the resultant mix to leak out of the steering knuckles over time, and the oil fraction increase over time as the grease was removed. If the CV boot was intact and
nothing leaked out, its probably not a big deal, since grease is essentially oil and soap mixed together. CV joints take a special grease to deal with their extreme loads, if oil were the best lube, it would have been used from the factory.
