I also wanted to mention what worked for me. To the c-clip back on the axle 
shaft I notched the tips of the c-clip with a hack saw just slightly so I 
could use a set of snap ring pliers to hold the clip open. Without the 
notches, the pliers easily slide off. 

Dunno if this helps, but it worked for me. Once I did this, I had the clip 
on in 5 minutes.
