[Vwdiesel] Turbo talks -- ( sodium injection ? )

What Makes up a VW Turbo Diesel !
There are a few differences between the Turbo and the Non-Turbo Motors.


1- Starting with the Head The regular head is Cast in aluminum-alloy.
While the Turbo has a stronger, sodium-injected alloy.

I seen sodium and tasted sodium ( not by choice )   

Just like Loren I have a bit of problems with this one .    I know it is a better alloy
but sodium ?   ---interesting .   Must be a typo.

IMHO  after reading the SAE papers on the crank  ---I say a lot different.

But I still say with care --a NA crank will do the job.     

Sodium melts at  97.7 degree C ---  go figure.    Sodium looks like low temp solder
and can be cut with a knife.

PS: How do I identify the tortional damper on my Turbo ?. 


A number of changes were made to the crankshaft. The front end of the crankshaft was reinforced. The highly loaded crank-pin, at cylinder 4, has its radius induction hardened and the oil hole ground while radii at the other pins are roll-hardened. A torsional vibration damper is used.
