Egads... you mean I should run down and salvage that muffler I let go with my rusted 
out '85 Jetta TD?!! ;-)
I did keep the rest of the exhaust, and was amazed that I was able to spray liquid 
wrench on the clamps, wait an hour, and unbolt the whole thing, then tap apart with a 
hammer. This was a used exhaust I got from a wrecker 8 years and 300k kms ago. The 
stock exhaust holds up amazingly well. The bend up over the rear axle finally gave way, 
so I left muffler... I might just rescue it yet - it's still sitting at a neighbour's place... :-)--
