OK thanks to Gary I am hot to check my valve seals and guides to see if
they can be the answer to my large oil burning question. After bringing in
a spare hydraulic head to work and popping out one of the valves on my
office floor carpet it is clear I need to get the correct tools for the
job. With 2 large screwdrivers we were able (not easily) to compress the
valve spring enough to get the keepers off one valve. Now that I have seen
how the seals fit etc. with a little spring around them I am wondering if
mine could have been pushed out of position when I had the problem with my
oil pump bypass that caused the huge spikes in oil pressure. I have the
picture in my Bentley of the VW tools that we are going to make from but a
Google search showed this really wild tool for replacing seals. Curious if
anyone has ever seen it. They have a short video and it sure makes the job
look easy. http://www.toyotool.com/valvemaster.htm Before pulling my head
again I wonder if I should put new seals in to see if it helps. I should be
able to get a idea then also of the condition of the guides maybe??

Tool looks cool but after leaning as hard as I could on a screwdriver to
compress the spring I can't see how they are able to push a little on the
tool to do the same thing. Are diesel valve springs lots stronger?

Bart
