I talked to the technician today. He said he did attempt to set the timing
mechanically by removing the 3 bolts and turning the pulley, etc. He said he
could get the timing set right, but as soon as he started the car the timing
went right back the way it was, severely retarded. That plus the pump itself
making a very loud knocking noise tells him that I need a new pump.
I also found out that if I brought in my own pump the labor wouldn't be
covered under warranty. In otherwords, if the "new" pump fails at any time,
I would have to pay the labor cost again to remove it and reinstall it.
That alone is $400.
BUT
If I buy the pump through the dealership, and have them install it, the pump
AND the labor will be warranted for 12 months / 12k miles. And any time
during that period, if the pump fails, it'll be replaced at no charge. No
labor charges either.
I sure expected to get a lot more miles than just 112k out of my injection
pump. }:o(
