Care to share why?  Are you speaking of Lister gasser or diesel?

Is it because in the Lister the compression release does not hold one of the
valves open but adds another hole to the cylinder? I've heard something
about them using a hand wheel that you turn but haven't actually seen one.
In such a case cylinder priming and ignition could still occur and a
damaging flame would be shooting out the compression release port, melting
it.  Just a guess about Listers that I have no hands on knowledge about
except that I want to acquire a 6/1 diesel CS.
