There's a corollary here...
New nozzles, engine runs better, engine has more power, driver likes it,
driver keeps pedal mashed for longer periods of time because of the
smile factor.
In the end, more pedal less economy.

However, in day to day driving, a more efficient engine will require
less fuel to run => better mileage.
