  I seem to remember reading that the following year had air bag AND a 
glove box and it was retrofittable.  That may have been in a Jetta unless 
the Jetta always had a glove box, in that case it applies to the Passat. :-)
It's a small glove box but YES anything at ALL is better than what it 
has(n't).
