[Vwdiesel] Easiest/Quickest way to check engine timing?

Quickest check would be to remove valve cover and turn
engine over until timing mark on flywheel appears. Try the
cam bar with feeler gauges to 'square' it up. If this is
fine then all is safe. (Valve damage wise)

To make future monitoring easier paint a mark on cam
sprocket to line up with some convenient point say for
example the edge of valve cover. This tells you if belt has
slipped overtime but does not guarantee non cam slippage if
bolt has loosened...
