  I've found that if you're careful to make sure there's no grease where 
the big end of the boot and outer CV joint meet, they don't slip off.  I'd 
be a bit leary of using screw clamps since 1.) you usually get new 
clamp clamps with a joint 2.) the notches in screw clamps can cut 
into flexing rubber quite often 3.) when there's a clean rubber to 
metal seal, they usually last several years, leaving much more time 
for #2 to happen!
