[Vwdiesel] 93 EV crank seal

anyone ever replaced the crank seal on a Eurovan?
I do not have specified VW tools and before I remove the old seal I want to make
sure I can get the new one in
looks like I can just pull/work/slip/cut/slice/yank/shred the old one out
then I'm thinking I can use the crank bolt + some kind of jerry-rigged
washer-cup (fender washer w/ old seal glued to it?) to press the new one in

any thoughts?
