Well said , Bill, all of the above, and....

Plus being able (in summer) to run on 50% free waste canola oil WITH NO MODS.

I have lightened up my 87 jetta by discarding a lot of internal and external
plastic, the A/C system, the under carpet sound abatement mats (sand in
plastic pockets) etc.
I have wired around or discarded troublesome electrics (there are a few) As
long as the lights work and it starts and stops reliably, what else do I need.

It has about 500,000km (312,500 miles) on it and is in top driving shape,
new brakes, shocks, as required.

It is my favorite country road tripper, smiling at diesel pumps as I
aromatically waft by.
