[Vwdiesel] More on Intermittent GP's

Well.........at the end of the day, I had ZERO GP's.....not even a flicker
on the yellow light on the dash like at noontime. I did however hear what I
think was a GP relay rapidly clicking on/off on/off as I was cranking the
starter..........ever try to start a diesel in -8*C weather with NO GP's!?

Well, it did start eventually, after a minute of cranking, but it wasn't
happy. Rattled/Smoked/cough/gagged sputtered worse than ever.

Later, I stopped @ a neigbors house (across the street) and visited for
about an hour...outside now -10*C.
Again, no GP's, no yellow LED and this time *NO* relay clicking from under
the dash while cranking.

Tomorrow this time I may have a limping home story for you.

I'm thinking I could just put a booster cable from the + of the battery onto
the busbar/first GP and heat it for 20 seconds before jumping in to crank it
tmw afternoon. It's plugged in tonight so the block heater should help
quite a bit when I go to start it @ 7am.....will likely be -15*C
outside.....and no GP's!
I do have a can of ether but really really REALLY don't want to use it
unless I'm stranded big time somewhere.

No time tonight to troubleshoot and it'll have to wait until Saturday.

Ideas?
