I've played around a bit with the max fuel loading screw...
Is this the correct procedure?

Answer :     YES.

The whole thing can ce done in any parking lot in Nanaimo.        

To learn something remove the screw and take a good look at it . Lubricate oring
a bit when reinstalling.

Hold the screw with a small  Vicegrip when tightening 13 mm nut.

And yes ---remove top cover from timing belt.    And remember there are 4 bolts holding pump.

I have to say that it took me a few years  to become good at it ---  lots of study and
help from this group.     -----NOW ?   it feels like a piece of pie  "Apple".

Gerry keep on turning it ccw to you feel a reduction of power. Then in a tad.

Hillbilly --is a misnomer   ---it is really a very sophisticated way of TUNING  not TIMING   
an old Rabbit .   -- The brave ones do it running not me  --I am chickenshit.

NO need for a Dial indicator.
