Because after the first Diesel Purge treatment resulted in
only 44 mpg (definitely an improvement) I decided to put
another can through (I am not strung out and can quit
whenever I want!). This time I did it even slower then the
first time. I let it soak for 40 hours except for running
for a minute several time a day to stir things up.

Today I topped up the tank and drove to Nisqually, 105
miles round trip. Limited speed to 60. When I got back
it took 1.94 gals which works out to 54 mpg.

I know that this is a poor way to get an accurate
measurement. For one thing, it involved less then two
gallons of fuel in a tank that hold more then 12.6
gallons. If the fuel heats up and expands this is going to
make it appear that less fuel was used. So I think that is
likely that 54 mpg is higher then the actual value.
Despite the limitations in this test, I figure that it
delivered at least 50 mpg on this trip.

Nothing more then Diesel Purge was used. At this point I
suspect that my pump is back on the air and is working as
well as it was on the trip to Hagar's place.

Although the pump is working, I did not learn what it was
doing that affected engine performance. I also don't know
if the second treatment was really required. It may be
that my test drive was at fault.

Was this all caused by a bad load of fuel? Perhaps it was.

Too much stuff to ponder. Time for bed.
