Hagar,
In most power schemes that employ hydrogen as a so called
'fuel', the
hydrogen is merely used to store an amount of energy and
release it at point
of use, like a battery with way less than 100% efficiency in
the conversion.
The original hydrogen in this case comes from a process that
'makes it'
through the use of burning fossil fuels to generate the
power needed to
power the process that makes this hydrogen appear. Wind and
sunlight can
also be used to 'make' hydrogen (electrolisis of H2O) but in
these cases one
is throwing away energy and would be better off using the
power generated by
the wind or sun converter directly. Yes you can strip
hydrogen from
hydrocarbon fossil fuels with a process that requires
additional input of
energy, but once again you are better off from a purely
efficiency point of
view of burning the fossil fuel in your engine directly.
There is something
to this you aren't grasping. You are not alone.
Rob
I agree Rob and why spend energy hydrogenating gas to make
'diesel' when it could be burnt directly... Hell burn CO if
available.
