I got the 91 TD Jetta running. Didn’t get a chance to take it out with it
getting dark and I have two injector lines leaking at the pump. The bottom
two. These are new lines as well. I was able to find new ones for a good
price. Not like I didn’t have time to look while waiting for all my parts to
come in each week. I can say this much. I’m running the nonturbo injector
lines and they fit just fine. The two bottom lines are kind of at an angle
so I need to take them back off and tweak them some to have the face of the
line seat flat on the injector pump. Other than that it runs great. I had to
turn the idle up some and the pump is set right at 1mm. I was even able to
get it up to operating temp and go back through and ¼ turn the head bolts.
This is also the head that the local shop messed up on the first rebuild. So
far so good. I also still don’t have any oil pressure at the head at warm
idle, this is the second new oil pump, I even plastigaged the bearings and
they are all good. So beats me as to the oil pressure problem. The head is
getting oil because I didn’t tighten the cam cover at first and I had a nice
puddle under the car from the oil flowing down the backside of the engine.
Oh I did run into another problem, (hey would it be me if something didn’t
happen) my throttle cable broke at the fire wall, so the casing just slides
back and forth. It still works but not like it should. I don’t get full
throttle travel. So time to look around and wait for another part to come
in. :-( But at least I can drive it. Hopefully I can get that leak fixed
when I get home from work and get it out on a break-in run.
