Solenoid may be good if there is a spark. You could try rocking vehicle in
gear to see if starter has stuck. Pull the glowplug relay so that the
glowplugs don't get in the way and drain battery unnecessarily whilst you
are solving this...
Maybe a similar stroking between the battery and one of the fat terminals
on the starter could tell us something (the one that doesn't have the big
fat battery cable on it).
I think the starter should spin freely. Not thinking clearly as I've been
trying to laminate the floor of my kitchen and dining room... Having
knocked a hole through the wall I've discovered a mysterious height
difference :o(
Not as if my thoughts are ever clear ;o)...
