[Vwdiesel] Brake bleeders

What was the routine for snapped off caliper bleeders?

I now do as Hagar says, try to open each one every year, and even bleed a
bottle of fluid through them.

The 87 still running with the original calipers, but no bleeder screws.

When I do the sliders every year, have the caliper off, I compress the
piston with a C clamp while holding it with the hose connection uppermost,
and cracked open. This expells all the old fluid from the caliper, while new
fluid is draining down from the MC by gravity to keep the air out. When I
close things up, (when the clean fluid appears) I just pump it full again
after replacing it on the bracket. A bit tedious, but these calipers still
work fine after 17 years use on Canadian winter roads.

I try to do the fluid change trick every year on all the cars, and usually
use neversieze on all the bleeders. Also VERY important to have tight rubber
caps on the bleeders to keep the water out of the bleeder screw. I'm sure
that's how most of the corrosion occurs, from the bottom up.
