[Vwdiesel] 1st oil change after rebuild?

For various reasons, I'm not going to have the 1000+ kms on my newly 
rebuilt engine before taking a trip on Thursday, more like 200 at the most. 
I'm running Castrol RX 15w40 regular diesel oil, planning to switch to 
synthetic 15w40 at the first change. My trip will involve several mountain 
passes and freeway driving, about 1500km total. Should I dump the dino 
oil now, (and re-use it in my Jetta?) and switch? Should I change the filter? 
It seems early to change the filter, but I have no idea of the ability of break-
in metals to clog the filter. The oil is still quite clean for a diesel - just a 
slight tinge of soot, making it hard to read the dipstick, something I'm not 
used to...
