When I needed to replace the bent pulley on my water pump (1.9D engine), I could not find
a matching pulley (it was the stamped steel kind). So I scoured a few junkyards and came
up with a cast iron pulley from an older gas engine car w/ A/C that stuck out just a bit
too far. I then chucked that pulley up in my lathe and shaved a few mm of material off
the inside of the mounting flange until it lined up perfectly. I already had the non-A/C
alternator.
Maybe in your case you can shim the alternator bracket over farther, or the alt. in the
bracket.
