If you are looking for the ultimate in batteries, I'd recommend an Optima
Redtop or at least some other brand of gel cell battery. Even though the
Optima's only come in two sizes, the bigger one will fit the OEM battery
slot. You won't be able to use the stock hold down clamp because the Optima
has a rounded surface in that area. Roger Brown modified his hold down clamp
to accommodate the curved surface. I believe he has pictures on his website.

If my VW Quantum TD starting problem turns out to be a tired battery
(cranking speed does seem subjectively a bit slow), then I'll be in
the market for a replacement. Any recommended brands of batteries, or
places to get batteries, in Seattle? As it happens, I live close to
Schucks in Ballard, and I believe they test batteries. Is the test
accurate, or just a marketing tool? Thank you.
