Optima seems to be over rated. I too thought they were the heat until I got
one and installed it in my 02 Silverado. Since I don't run it much due to
the price of gas and I drive the Jetta all the time I let the truck sit for
about three months and when I went to go get some lumber the battery was
dead. This was in the middle of the summer as well and the truck sits inside
the garage. Now I have an AutoZone battery in my 65 Impala and that sits
inside the garage too and it sits for even longer periods and it cranks
right up. I know the 02 has way more electronics on it than my 65 Impala but
still all in all from what I have read and listen to others online rave
about the Optima it shouldn't have died like that in my opinion.
To me you can't beat the Auto Zone batteries.

If you are looking for the ultimate in batteries, I'd recommend an Optima
Redtop or at least some other brand of gel cell battery. Even though the
Optima's only come in two sizes, the bigger one will fit the OEM battery
slot. You won't be able to use the stock hold down clamp because the Optima
has a rounded surface in that area. Roger Brown modified his hold down clamp
to accommodate the curved surface. I believe he has pictures on his website.
