I found with mine, it was the brushes in the motor wearing down that cut the cranking speed.
I still have to rebuild that one starter with some new brushes to use as a spare.
Only way the magnets could be weakened is if they were raised above their Curie temperature,
assuming that is a ferrite magnet in there, you are looking at 860F(460C), which is pretty toasty!
