Been lurking on this list for awhile, though I could offer some input
for once...
I have been running B100 in my '81 Rabbit, with stock 225,000-mile
injection pump and stock fuel lines, for two years. No problems. That
injection-pump fatality stuff is a bunch of hooey--just watch the
shaft seal and the accelerator and cold-start lever seals, and if one
starts to go, replace it. Rebuild the pump when it finally dies, as
they all eventually do. Biodiesel is actually better for any kind of
fuel pump than diesel is, due to its excellent lubricity.
Also, to the guy with the Jetta with the engine needing a rebuild: you
said you might be looking for a good 1.6 longblock...well I don't have
a longblock, but I do have a shortblock with 80k on it, excellent
running condition when removed, no cylinder ridge at all. You wouldn't
even need to rebuild it; at most, you could hone it and do new rings.
Then just drop your current head on it and throw it in the car. Came
out of an '84 Rabbit. It's taking up space in my basement so if you're
anywhere near Seattle I might sell it to ya at a good price.
