If possible, stay away from putting much pressure on the glass edge when
you are doing this.
When I cracked the windshield on my 85 Jetta TD, I did it by inserting a
blade between the seal and the edge of the windshield, to open up a space
for some sealant. The critical/strategic/dangerous part of this was the
glass edge. Pressure on the edge wasn't very much and it started a crack.
But then, I guess you don't care much about trashing the glass. You want
the seal.
Just wanted to verify that you will be lucky not to crack the glass.
