First: IT'S NOT A CHOKE!! ;-) It's a timing advance. Regardless of
where you set the timing, it WILL advance when pulled. It advances
timing relative to itself as it has no clue what it's timed to on the
engine. If you hear no difference (when cold mostly) then it's either
far too advanced or retarded. Not that it isn't making a difference, you
just can't hear it.
My first thought is something got in an injector and it's pissing a
stream rather than a fine mist. A cylinder will knock much harder
with a bad injecor.
