[Vwdiesel] Block Heater In!

Nothing like the feeling of accomplishment when your done. Not to mention
knowing it was done correctly. Now when you go out on those cold mornings
you know it will fire right up with the new toasty heater installed.

This is my third day running my 91 ECO converted to a true turbo with the
LDA disconnected. I can defiantly tell a difference in power and the smoke
is all but gone as well running it, even at full throttle in the high rpm
ranges. So my smoke is from the LDA which tells me that I need to adjust it
since it is really over fueling by the ton of black smoke it does put out.
It sure makes a difference in power and I don't try to pull out in traffic.
I'm running with the LDA disconnected for a full tank to see how my mileage
does.

Subject: [Vwdiesel] Block Heater In!

I finally ordered my new block heater and got it
installed today! I'm sure the Cabriolet will be much
less grumpy tomorrow when I go to wake her up.

Getting the old one out was a pain. It didn't have a
bolt holding it in, it was a flathead screw that I had
to loosen. It was a total pain to get it out, it was
very difficult to keep the screwdriver in the slot.

Getting the new in was also a pain. It didn't want to
slip easily into the hole, and the nut that holds it
in kept stripping. I had to make a couple hardware
store runs because I wasn't smart enough to buy more
than one on the first trip.

Also, I was planning on dumping and reusing the
coolant. I don't know why I thought it was in as good
of shape as I did, but that is what I was planning.
It was pretty dirty and rusty, so I grabbed some flush
stuff and new coolant and flushed it out good before
finishing up.

I'm sure it'll be worth it in the end, but it the job
was much more than I was originally planning. It
appears the new one works. When I unplugged the
extension cord to put the timer inline, there was a
spark, so I guess it was drawing power.

I did have new tires installed today as well, so that
will be really nice!

Someone asked for an update, so there it was...
