[Vwdiesel] TDI altenator

OK, I'm getting frustrated.  Spent a couple of hours in the rain
working on the '03, which has a flashing battery (generator/altenator)
light.

Pulled the voltage regulator, with the altenator in situ.  The brushes 
were within the wear limits posted in the Bentley manual (CDROM version,
only version available when I bought it...get paper if you can, it's
faster to use).  The rings looked crappy, so I turned them with the 
engine acting as my lathe motor.  Nice and clean, put voltage regulator
back on.  Dropped two 13mm sockets, which slipped out of my wet fingers.
Haven't found them yet, but haven't taken off the bottom pan.

Altenator still not working.

Looking at Fred's page (not as fast as searching old VW deisel archives)
it appears that there are several methods for R&R'ing the 
altenator.  The CDROM Bentley implies a complicated job, but doesn't
seem to detail it.

Two questions:  Anyone done pulled the altenator, and able to comment
on how they did it?
Secondly, anyone have a source for the voltage regulator modules?  (mine is 
a Bosch...I think 90amp, but I don't know for certain.)

Any other comments?
