It's not so much a "diesel runs hotter than gas" thing as a "the 2.4
runs hotter than the 1.6" thing. Apparently over time they can run hot
enough to de-temper the rings (???) which makes them quite smoky as they
get older. I'm more than a little skeptical about that one, though.
Engine in question is an NA model, though eventually I'll probably buy
and drop in a TD engine once I get serious about the Volvo. Which, given
how long of a project I'm looking at the Ultimate Syncro project being,
might be pretty soon just so I have a driveable diesel. ;)
