Loren, you were right, my mystery is solved and what a
great feeling that is. I looked at the upper timing
belt cover, plastic on this 1V motor and sure enough
there is a whole warn in the cover where the belt came
off the injection pump. So, I took my new belt off
and the pump gear moved from side to side way to much.
The pump was from a TD pump from un-known source that
the man used on this motor when he did the rebuild but
he never had the pump checked out. Since it did not
spit fuel he figured it was good, it is not. How this
pump was not spraying fuel out the front, I do not
know?
So, I found my TD pump from a 83 TD Rabbit that I had
rebuilt 6 years ago for my van 1.9td motor that never
got completed. I will be using this pump. I ordered
the proper gear puller as the junky ones I have been
using will not get the gear of when the motor is in
the car, so to the junk pile they will go when I get
my real VW type puller.
THANKS again, if I had put this motor back together
all my time rebuilding the head would have been lost,
the belt would have walked off again. I did plan on
running it without the upper belt cover on so I hope I
would have seen it walking off before it was to late,
but now the quest is over, this will be a confident
motor when she runs.
