[Vwdiesel] Engine Balancing

Rudy,
Cannot hurt. Any time you can reduce vibration the longevity of the 
engine and chassis will increase.  In aircraft we static balance the 
reciprocating  parts and then once it is all assembled then we do a 
dynamic balance.  The static balance is basically  weighting  
everything  and  making  everything  match.   The dynamic  is done with 
a machine that measures vibration (inches per second) of the engine 
while running and the "clock" angle that it is happening at.  Then the 
box tells you where and how much weight to add to reduce the vibs.  Not 
sure if anyone dynamic balances auto engines, but it is very great on 
the aircraft.  Seen one old crop duster that vibrated so bad it was 
loosening rivets in the wings and tail.
